The stories to read for this seminar, The Black Cat by Edgar Allan Poe (https://poestories. Com/read/blackcat ) and Going for the Orange Julius by Myla Goldberg (http://failbetter. Com/04/Goldberg. Htm ) are both written in the first person. Why is the first person narrative used in the two stories? How does it contribute to the effect of the texts? Usually, first person narratives bring the reader closer to the narrator – we tend to sympathize more with him/her, because we follow very closely the narrator’s thoughts and feelings. Does this happen in the two short stories, or is there anything unusual in the way in which the first person point of view is used? Write your answer in about 150-200 words (for both stories together, not for each of them). .
